Tomb Raider III duelling versions

As someone who has more vintage systems than I can poke a stick at, it may be surprising how few double-ups of physical games I have. Off the top of my head, the only one that comes to mind if Tomb Raider III, which I have for the Playstation 1 and for PC.
Probably the main reason for this lack of double-ups is simply the fact that I'm not a rabid or obsessive collector of physical copies of games. I have a fairly respectable collection, but I just tend to get things that I actually want to play, if it comes across my path at the right time for the right price. I don't really have an urge to 'collect em all'.
The reason I have two copies of TR3 is coincidence. If I recall correctly, I originally found a copy of the PC version at an op shop (thrift shop for Americans) for peanuts. Later I had an urge to play TR1 on the playstation, and I happened to find a bundle on ebay with TR1 and TR3 for a reasonable price.
I started playing the first game many years ago on PC, but lost steam about halfway through. On this more recent replay, it seemed to click better for me. It became a bit of a comfort food - I'd settle myself down on my comfy couch on a weekend with a beer in front of by big old CRT TV and just have some easy-going fun. The early Tomb Raider games have a game loop and vibe that for me are almost meditative. They're not fast paced, the controls are finicky and precise, and you have to approach them pretty mindfully, and it's the perfect formula for me to just get lost in the world, slowly trawling through the levels, getting to know them intimately.
Some months after playing the first game, I decided it was time to get to the second. I had bought for my Pentium I Windows 95 machine a Voodoo 1 card, probably paying too much for it, and I had not really got much use out of it. This is why I got the PC version of TR2, so I could give that computer a bit of a workout. I was a little worried sitting at a desk with a little screen right in front of my face would not be as good for the relaxing flow state of the game, but I went ahead with it anyway.
I had maybe even a better time with this one than the first - I'm on the fence about whether the better graphics made it more or less immersive, but they certainly looked pretty. The controls on the keyboard, however, did feel better, and put up less of a barrier to me sinking into the gameplay. I'm also not sure if the unrestricted quicksaves helped - it might sound weird, but having to redo large stretches of the game over and over actually worked to immerse me in the levels even more.
Anyway, after I finished TR2, I came back to the series for number 3 a few months later. This time I had a problem - I played the first game on the Playstation, and the second game on PC. What system would I play the third one on, given I have both versions? I did a bit of research about version differences, but the games are pretty similar, apart from the aforementioned graphical improvements and save system. I liked lazing back on my couch, and the crunchy chunky graphics of the Playstation added a different but no worse atmosphere. But I also liked the satisfaction of the PC controls, and I liked the graphics in their own way.
In the end, I decided to play both versions concurrently. Unfortunately, despite my best efforts, I haven't been able to grow a second pair of arms, so I couldn't play them literally at the same time. To get the full experience out of both versions, without too much foreknowledge of one ruining it for me in the other, this is the system I decided on:
I started by playing the first level on the Playstation, then the first and the second level on the PC. Then I would play the second and third level on the Playstation, then the third and fourth on the PC. And so on.
The repetition shouldn't bother me, because part of what I enjoy about this series, as I mentioned, is exploring the levels meticulously, getting intimately familiar with them.
Two things, however, did cause wrinkles in my system. The first thing is that my Playstation, or maybe my memory card, seems to have developed a gremlin. After playing for half an hour or so, it would slow down when trying to load until it simply crashed. I can work around that - just take a break when it starts to act up. I'm sure there's something I could do to fix it too, if I ever get around to it. But the main problem I had was that the game just wasn't gripping me. Once I had done the first level twice, I realised that after having played the first two games, I was feeling a bit Tomb-raidered out, even with long gaps in between. I ended up putting it down for yet another few months.
I did finally pick it up again a couple of weeks ago, and the momentum, I have to say, seems to be building. The vibe is back. I've only just gotten to the end of the India section on the PC, so I'm not that far in. I don't really have much of an observation to reveal here. No hot take on the difference between the versions, or meaningful insight into playing a game this way. I guess you'll just have to wait until I've finished the game twice. Sorry for the anticlimax.
